Leadership.

Leadership isn’t just about holding a title. It’s about the daily choices, the habits, and the values we bring to the table. Since being elected to represent Niagara-on-the-Lake, I’ve learned that true leadership comes from consistency—how you listen, how you act, and how you build trust with the community you serve.

Here are the guiding principles I use every day as I work on behalf of NOTL:

Listen first.

When residents reach out about heritage concerns, short-term rentals, or even something as simple as a pothole, my first role is to listen. Every perspective adds value to our decision-making, and I want residents to feel heard before anything else.

Take initiative.

Many of the motions I’ve brought forward—like the Master Business Licence Program, stronger enforcement tools, and support for youth and community grants—came from seeing a gap and stepping up to close it. Change only happens when we take initiative.

Follow through.

It’s not enough to talk about solutions—we need to deliver them. Whether it’s following up on bylaw enforcement, ensuring permits and planning processes stay accountable, or checking in with businesses after decisions, I take pride in following things through to completion.

Lead by example.

I believe respect, fairness, and professionalism must be modeled. Even in tough debates, I strive to set the tone by treating colleagues, staff, and residents with respect.

Stay accountable.

Accountability means owning my decisions—even when they’re difficult. When I stand in Council chambers or speak with residents, I am clear about why I vote the way I do, because transparency matters.

Speak with clarity.

Local government can sometimes feel overwhelming or technical. I work to explain what’s happening in a way that makes sense for everyone, whether that’s at Council meetings, in my blogs, or in conversations on Queen Street.

Ask better questions.

At Council, asking the right questions helps uncover the details that matter. I’ve found that thoughtful questions—about heritage, planning, or financial impact—often lead to better, more balanced outcomes.

Share credit generously.

Progress in NOTL is never the work of one person. From our dedicated Town staff to engaged residents and business leaders, I know that collaboration is what makes our community thrive—and I make it a habit to recognize that.

Build trust through action.

Trust is earned, not given. That’s why I show up—whether it’s at community meetings, local events, or behind the scenes on the hard files. Action speaks louder than words, and I want residents to know I am working for them.

Lead without the title.

At the end of the day, leadership is not about being called “Councillor.” It’s about serving—notl and its people with integrity. The title simply gives me the platform; the real leadership comes from the commitment I bring every day.

These are the habits that ground me in this role and guide how I represent our town. Niagara-on-the-Lake is a community rich in history, heritage, and heart, and my responsibility is to ensure that I lead in a way that reflects and protects all of that.
